ZED’s incredible Cattail Grape (CTG) strain embodies all of these advancements. ZED has also developed a proprietary process by which it can take any strain and through a proprietary selective breeding process, convert it to a USDA-compliant, high-yield CBD strain while retaining its unique flavor and aroma profiles.

Strain Conversion Process

The conversion of any strain into high-CBD hemp is currently being accomplished through multiple rounds of selective breeding with ZED’s genetic tools, whereby third generation plants express only high levels of CBD (>20% weight/weight) while retaining the terpene signature of the original plant. This proprietary process has significant implications for the commercialization of designer hemp strains, as well as novel hemp genetics with unique terpene profiles. Ultimately, the conversion of mainstream genetics into original hemp varietals allows ZED to considerably expand its genetic library, while also providing the basis for additional new products that may appeal to conscientious connoisseurs that are familiar with mainstream cultivars. As such, we have already created hemp analogs of several of the world’s most popular strains.

ZED’s CTG strain represents a paradigm shift for the entire hemp industry. While grown with a columnar structure similar to industrial X-59 hemp, CTG is an autoflowering varietal that can yield in excess of 6,000 pounds per acre in as little as 7 weeks (>10% CBD biomass). Not only does CTG provide significant opportunities for hemp operators to reduce operational costs and increase revenues; but the production of CTG seed presents a substantial opportunity for lucrative revenue generation.

Given its clear advantages over other commercially available hemp strains, CTG has become a focal point of further research & development for ZED, acting as a genetic chassis to create a myriad of derivative strains that can maintain the core benefits of CTG (high-CBD, autoflowering, efficient to grow and harvest) while also exhibiting the benefits of any other strain, such as physical bud structure/appearance and terpene profile.

CTG and its crosses have incredible applications for both the industrial hemp and high-end hemp flower markets. In the industrial sector, traditional branched-stalk varietals of hemp will be rendered obsolete by the high-yielding, mechanically harvestable CTG. For the high-end, connoisseur hemp flower market, ZED’s CTG cross-strains from its genetic library are available as seeds, individually licensed to different parties, and can be used as the basis for developing custom made-to-order hemp analogs of existing strains that brands are known for. This provides clients access to the incredible benefits of CTG while allowing them to retain their signature flavor and fragrance profiles.
